Mspca: 4-Week-Old Kitten Rescued From Truck Tire Needs Surgery To Keep Leg

A four-week-old kitten is expected to have surgery to help him get back into "pur-fect" shape.

The kitten will need surgery to keep its arm but will most likely loose a few toes, the MSPCA-Angell said.

The kitten was found trapped inside the wheel of a truck in Lawrence on Friday, Nov. 4, the MSPCA-Angell reports. The agency says the frightened feline hid in the tire and got stuck.

"No one could find him until they heard him crying," said Meaghan O’Leary, director of operations at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen. "It was just so heartbreaking.”

Once the kitten was pulled from the tight space, veterinarians said his injuries were much worse than they thought.

“Our vets immediately cleaned him up, sutured a large wound on his leg, and bandaged his foot,” O'Leary said. "We’re optimistic that we’ll be able to save his leg, but we’ll likely need to amputate some toes.”

After having his surgery, the kitten will go into a foster home before he is old enough to adopt, the MSPCA said. They expect his recovery to last between four and six weeks.

“Right now, the kitten’s doing great with his foster. He’s eating well and has even been moving around, despite his injuries,” O'Leary added. “We know that he’ll be a wonderful pet when he’s fully recovered.”

The MSPCA is actively seeking donations to cover the cost of the kitten's surgery and other care, which could surpass $5,000. People interested in donating can do so by clicking here
